What are these medications?

How does they work for weight loss?

GLP-1 is a hormone that helps control your appetite and digestion. It's one of those incretin hormones that your body releases from your small intestine after you eat. What it does is help bring down your blood sugar levels by releasing insulin and blocking other sources of sugar. It also slows down how fast food leaves your stomach, which makes you feel full and less hungry. That's why it can help you lose weight. How is it Given?

These medications can be administered 2 ways. They can be given as an injection once a week under your skin in your belly, arm, or thigh. You can choose to come to our office weekly for your injection or if you are comfortable you can administer them yourself at home. We'll start you on a really low dose to ease into it and then slowly increase it every 4 weeks until you're at the full dose. They can also be given sublingual (liquid under the tongue) daily with weekly or monthly dose increases.

How does someone qualify?

These medications have specific Body Mass Index (BMI) requirements for eligibility. Individuals with a BMI above 30  or above 27 with a treated medical history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes may be considered candidates for these medications as part of their weight loss treatment plan. These BMI requirements are set to ensure that the potential benefits outweigh any potential risks for individuals with higher BMI levels. What are the potential side effects?

Potential side effects may include gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. Injection site reactions and abdominal discomfort are also possible. Moreover, changes in pancreatic enzymes may occur. In rare cases, more serious side effects such as pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, and kidney problems have been reported. It's crucial for individuals taking these medications to be mindful of these potential side effects and to promptly report any concerning symptoms to their healthcare provider. We will closely monitor patients for any signs of adverse effects and provide guidance on managing and mitigating these potential side effects. 

Where do we order these medications from?

The medication we order for is sourced from a compounding pharmacy, where they produce it in-house. These medications are compounded with Vitamin B6 to target specific side effects. Prior to release, each batch is sent to a third-party site for rigorous testing to ensure quality and efficacy. We prioritize patient safety and transparency, and therefore, the testing reports are readily available upon request. This thorough process ensures that patients receive high-quality, effective medication that meets our standards. How do I deal with the nausea or constipation?

By taking this medication sublingually it directly enters the bloodstream under the tongue, it offers a faster onset and more controlled release allowing you to absorb more of the active ingredient, leading to quicker and more consistent results.
